The training in undergraduate (6 years) and post-graduate (3–5 years) medicine courses is
carried out in 24 departments and 9 sectors and laboratories by 63 professors and 264 assistants.
Other staff employed at UM-Pleven includes 195 physicians and 1000 trained nurses.
The University of Medicine - Pleven is headed by the Rector, who is elected from among the
members of the Academic Council. The policy of the University is directed by the General Assembly,
the Academic Council and the Rectors Council.
The General Assembly is the supreme body for governing and managing the UM - Pleven.
The General Assembly consists of representatives from the academic staff (at least 70% of the
total number of the members of the Assembly), teachers of no academic rank plus administration
officers (15%) and post graduates and students (15%).
The Academic Council manages teaching and research activities
of UM-Pleven. It is elected by the General Assembly. The Academic Council consists of 25 to 45
members and presently includes: 33 professors, 7 chief assistants and 5 students.
The Rector represents UM-Pleven and is liable to the
Academic Council and the General Assembly.
The Rector’s Council is a consultative body for assisting
the Rector in solving current problems in the management of UM-Pleven. Mandatory members of the
Rector’s Council are: Vice Rectors of teaching, of scientific research and of clinical affairs, the
Financial Director and the Personnel Director.
