"IMPROVING TEACHING SKILLS OF CLINICIANS TAKING PART IN MEDICAL EDUCATION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS IN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE - PLEVEN"

Aim of the Project
The aim of the project was to improve the language skills of the teaching staff of UM - Pleven, who are involved in the teaching medical students in English medium. In addition to the main objective, the project satisfied the need of continuous updating of medical knowledge through various information systems, which are available mainly in English. The reach of these standards aimed indirectly at raising the quality of medical teaching in UM - Pleven. This will allow further integration with the European Educational System and enable successful future accredition of the educational institution.

Their obligations according to the agreement were as follows:
  • To arrange exchange of experience in pedagogic and cultural activities and language experience exchange.
  • To ensure specialists in the relevant field of study to ensure experience exchange.
  • To appoint the coordinator of the project.
  • To prepare incoming and outgoing tests for approbation of acquired knowledge.
  • To accredit the acquired knowledge of the beneficiaries.
The partners achieved the following results.

Beneficiaries:

  1. Improvement of the language skills.
  2. Testing and improvement of methodic educational products for medical teaching (printed, audiovisual, interactive).
  3. Cultural exchange.
Sending organization:
  1. Raised the quality of teaching and approached the curriculum to the European standards in accordance with the national priorities in education.
  2. Raised its competitive power in the involvement of students and improved the prospects for accreditation of the University.
  3. Partnerships and collaborations were established in the country and in Europe.
Host organization:
  1. Gained experience in work with medical teachers.
  2. Prepared professionally oriented programs.
  3. Completed and tested the electronic language database.

Content and program of the exchange:

The practice in the host country was an integral part of the general program of the project and included:

  1. Testing and evaluation of the language skills of the participants, prior to and after the implementation of the exchange, which included the completion of an electronic language database of the host organization.
  2. Realization of a professional, cultural and language exchange.
  3. Implementation of specific practice on medical English with elements of terminology.
  4. Evaluation and improvement of teaching materials prepared in advance (before the exchange) in accordance with the European requirements for educational content and language quality.
  5. Organization and carrying out of professional meetings at Medical Universities and Hospitals.
