The preparation and implementation of ECTS at University of
Medicine - Pleven was organized and carried out by the International Relations
Office of UM with the assistance of all departments.
The principles and procedures of ECTS and the outcomes
of the introduction of ECTS for UM - Pleven were explained to the administration, the
teaching staff and the students at several informational meetings at different levels.
The aim of these meetings was to explain to the
participants how the system operates, what are the rules for allocation of credits, what
are the benefits of the introduction of ECTS.
At the meeting of the Academic Council on 27 September
1999 it was formally decided to introduce ECTS in the Faculty of Medicine of UM - Pleven
as a basis for recognition of periods of training abroad of students from UM - Pleven
participating in student mobility.
It was decided that the ECTS Guidebook for UM - Pleven will be produced in four languages
Bulgarian as official language in Bulgaria
English as the most appropriate to disseminate information abroad
French and German as languages of the Socrates/Erasmus partners of UM - Pleven.
The information that is included in the guidebook was
procured by all departments and sectors of UM - Pleven and the Teaching office. The editing was
performed by the staff of the International Relations Office.
Copies of the Guidebook was sent to all Departments and Sectors of UM - Pleven, with a request for
comments and proposals to be included in the revised edition for the next academic year.Copies were
also sent to all partners of UM - Pleven in Socrates/Erasmus activities and to all partner
institutions of UM - Pleven in various international activities.
No major difficulties were encountered during the implementation of ECTS. The system proved
successful in the organization of student mobility. The only problems for students arise from some
differences in the curriculum of UM - Pleven and the host universities.
